If by some reasons you cannot run automatic database update from the internet then the user/ administrator can use anti-virus database released in ZIP-archives.

Archives with anti-virus database are regularly laid out on the Kaspersky Lab's official sites in the zips folder.

What archives reside in the folder zips?

This folder contains sets of anti-virus databases formed by Kaspersky Lab.

• Sets of threat signatures
• av-i386-daily.zip -has all updates of threat signatures released since last Sunday till the present moment. As Kaspersky Lab releases updates every hour the archive is updated every hour too.

• av-i386-weekly.zip - has all updates of threat signatures that were released last week (from Sunday till Sunday). The archive is updated on the servers once a week on Sunday.

• av-i386-cumul.zip - has a full set of threat signatures. The archive contains all anti-virus databases released till the last Sunday. It is updated once a week on Sunday.
• Sets of threat signatures and databases of network attacks. Unlike previous sets of databases these sets include databases of network attacks
• av-i386&ids-daily.zip – has a full set of databases of network attacks and all updates of threat signatures released from the previous Sunday till the present moment. This archive is updated each hour the same as all anti-virus databases released by Kaspersky Lab.

• av-i386&ids-weekly.zip – has a full set of databases of network attacks and all updates of threat signatures released last week (from Sunday till Sunday). This archive is laid out on the servers once a week each Sunday.

• av-i386&ids-cumul.zip – has a full set of threat signatures and databases of network attacks. This archive contains all databases released up to the previous Sunday. It is updated once a week each Sunday.

Databases of network attacks are updated as soon as new attacks are detected.

The archive is updated on the servers once a week on Sunday. Archives *weekly.zip, *cumul.zip and kpas101-weekly.zip are laid out on the servers every Sunday at 5:00 a.m. by Moscow time (GMT +3). At this moment the contents and the size of the archive *daily.zip are the same as those of *weekly.zip (inside each set).

For example, today is 16th, Thursday:

av-i386-daily.zip contains all updates released from the 12th evening (of the last Sunday) till the present moment.

av-i386-weekly.zip contains all updates from the 5th evening (Sunday before the last) till the 12th evening (of the last Sunday)

av-i386-cumul.zip contains all updates that have ever been released till 12th.

IF the installed application contains the protection module against network attacks, download the necessary sets of threat signatures and databases of network attacks

If you updated for the last time:

• this week (since last Sunday), then download av-i386&ids-daily.zip only

How to install?

When unpacking archives, follow the rules:

• the *cumul.zip archive should be unpacked to a separate folder (do not unpack the archives *weekly.zip and *daily.zip into this folder);
• the archives *weekly.zip and *daily.zip can be unpacked into a common folder. When unpacking, click Yes when you are suggested to replace files with the same name.
• do not unpack archives with different sets of databases (for example, anti-virus databases and anti-virus + network attacks) into a common folder!

Having unpacked the archives run automatic database update. As the first update source define the folder with the unpacked archive *cumul.zip (if it exists), as the second – the folder with the unpacked archives *weekly.zip and *daily.zip in the update task.

How to configure the product to update from a local folder?

Once you have downloaded and unpacked the archives, configure the product to update from these folders:

• Open the main application window
• Select Settings in the upper menu
• In the left part of the Settings window in the Service section select Update
• In the right part of the Settings window in the Update settings section click Configure
• In the Settings window go to the Update source tab
• Click Add
• Specify the update folder
• Click OK
• Uncheck Kaspersky Lab’s update servers on the Update source tab
• Click OK
• Configure the schedule, quarantine scan if necessary
• Click OK
• Run the update process
• Perform the same actions for another folder (if necessary)

The Updates folder in the root directory C:\ is the folder into which the archives have been previously unzipped.

The dialog windows of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 MP2, Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 MP2, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations MP2, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 SOS and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Servers MP2 are the same but with the corresponding product names and the number of Protection components.

Windows 7 RC activation keys should still work to activate this build. No 64-bit (x64) version of Windows 7 Build 7231 is available. However, the 64-bit (x64) version of Windows 7 Build 7232 has also been leaked for free download.

Only 32-bit (x86) version of Windows 7 Build 7231 was leaked, but 64-bit lover can take heart that a 64-bit (x64) version of Windows 7 Build 7232, a newer build has also been leaked to Internet, and available for download via BitTorrent network. Windows 7 Build 7260 is thought by many to be the RTM build of Windows 7, which if it’s true, the final Windows 7 released to consumer will have build version 6.1.7260.0. The assumption was mainly caused by the fact that Windows 7 Build 7260 is the first build to have win7_rtm as its branch. Actually Windows 7 is just one of the candidate for RTM, and has since been leaked to Internet.

With the leak of Windows 7 Build 7232, and Windows 7 Build 7264, which no longer accept Windows 7 Beta product keys or Windows 7 RC product key for activation, worldwide Windows 7 enthusiasts can finally have a glance into what’s the official Windows 7 RTM default desktop would look like right after clean fresh installation of Windows 7, with main focus of Windows 7 official wallpaper.

So far, all builds of Windows 7 pre-beta, beta, post-beta, pre-RC, RC, post-RC and pre-RTM officially released or unofficially leaked has used a wallpaper with betta fish at its central, kind of signifying the build version is still in ‘beta’.

Other than various editions of Windows 7 on various languages that going to be available for general public, Microsoft is also rolling out a new edition of Windows 7 specially for Europe, which does not include Windows Internet Explorer (or specifically IE8) web browser, thanks to stiff and probably unreasonable anti-monopoly antitrust regulations, where European Commission rules that pre-installed IE bundle on dominant Windows operating system is blocking competition on web browser market.

As a result, Microsoft will be offering Windows 7 E Edition in European Union countries, which is Windows 7 without Internet Explorer 8. Unlike Windows Vista N Edition (Windows Vista without Windows Media Player, WMP), which is optional and user can choose between normal Windows Vista or N editions, Windows 7 E Edition will be the only edition available in EU markets.

The catch about Windows 7 E Editions is that there won’t be upgrade SKUs of Windows 7 E available, at least until December 31, 2009. All Windows 7 E Editions will be full version product, or known as full packaged product (FPP). Users of previous Windows version such as Windows Vista cannot perform in-place upgrade, and must perform fresh clean install of Windows 7 E.

The reason behind only full version of Windows 7 E Editions is available is that Microsoft wants to make sure all customers can get Windows 7 at the same time. As most existing Windows Vista system has already been installed with a version of Internet Explorer web browser, direct in-place upgrade to Windows 7 E without IE will involve some complication that requires more testing. Thus, Microsoft said it’s unable to offer a retail upgrade version of that piece of software on October 22nd, 2009, the scheduled official general availability date of Windows 7.

The only good news about Windows 7 E SKUs is that the full versions of Windows 7 E Edition will be selling at lower upgrade prices (see Windows 7 price). From now till December 31, 2009, when a dedicated Windows 7 E Upgrade SKU is scheduled to be available, all European Union customers will have the privilege to buy the full version packaged Windows 7 E at upgrade pricing, no matter they are upgrading from earlier version of Windows or clean install on new or old PC. The special privileged introductory pricing for Europe and UK customers who will receive Windows 7 E full version packaged product (FPP) is as follow:

Windows 7 E Professional: €284.99 / £189.99
Windows 7 E Ultimate: €299.99 / £199.99

The original full version package of Windows 7 has the following estimated selling Euro and UK pound price:

The pre-order will start from July 15, 2009, and run till supplies last or until August 14th, 2009.

Still undecided between Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7? Actually, the choice is only between Windows XP and Windows 7, as those who wants Windows Vista will definitely prefer Windows 7. Microsoft has published a Windows 7 Upgrade Test Matrix which outlines outlines supported and unsupported upgrade paths for Windows 7 SKUs. Other requirements for Windows 7 upgrade process is that the Windows 7 Upgrade process does not support a BitLocker encrypted system. BITLOCKER needs to be disabled or suspended before the upgrade process can be started. Besides, if the user changes or relocates Users directory and the ProgramData directory to a disk drive other than the system volume, the SKU upgrades and upgrades to future version of Windows will be blocked as the servicing stack does not handle cross-volume transactions.

Once interesting upgrade path not found in the Windows 7 Upgrade Text Matrix is ability to upgrade to Windows 7 E edition, a no-IE version of Windows 7 for European Commission block countries. It’s expected that Microsoft to allow any SKU of Windows Vista users to upgrade to Windows 7.

AdSense for Mobile Applications facilitates developers to earn revenue by presenting text and image ads into their iPhone and Android applications”.

However, this prepared service is only available in US and Canada.

BrowserTraySwitcher is a free and tiny utility that allows you to change your default web browser with just a single click. Once you install and run it, it doesn’t launch with any interface but instead will just sit at system tray silently. With the official general availability of Windows 7 is set to October 22nd, 2009, Windows 7 RTM (Released to Manufacturing), the final code piece that going to be released, has also likely to be finalized soon. It’s almost 2 weeks ago since Windows 7 Build 7260, also on RTM branch, was leaked to Internet as VHD image, and now finally a newer Windows 7 Build 7264, in original untouched and unmodified ISO image format, is leaked.

However, Windows 7 Build 7264 is likely not to be the final RTM build, as a show-stopper bug been found when it’s a candidate for RTM. Besides, an even newer build such as 6.1.7265.0.win7_rtm.090624-1905 has been known to be compiled by Microsoft. However, it’s the latest build to available to general public for free download. Both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) of Windows 7 Build 7264 is available with complete build string of 6.1.7264.0.win7_rtm.090622-1900. So the build was compiled and signed off on June 22nd, 2009.
