If you want to customize the appearance of the date on the system tray in Windows 7, follow these steps:

1. Click Start.
2. Click Control Panel.
3. Select Clock, Language, and Region.
4. Click Region and Language.
5. Click the Additional settings button located at the right bottom of the window.
6. Click the Date tab.
7. Under Date Formats, click the drop down menu to select the desired short date format.
8. If you don’t like the options available on the drop down menu and you wish to have something different, just place your cursor on the drop down and type your custom short date format.
9. Things to keep in mind:

d, dd: Display the date.
ddd, dddd: Display the day of the week
M, MM, MMM, MMMM: Display the month
yy, yyyy: Display the year.

10. Instead of the comma (,) you can use whatever separators you wish such as hyphens and periods.
